Could EMU football win at Virginia?

April 30, 2010

Hokie Holy smokes! Look at this, someone thinks EMU could beat a major-conference opponent this fall!

The Cavs will play Florida State, at Georgia Tech, UNC, Eastern Michigan, and Miami all in the month of October.  The good news is that four of those five games will be played in Charlottesville, Virginia.  The bad news is there’s a good chance UVA could lose all of those games.  Not only do they play the odds on favorite to win the Atlantic division in Florida State but they play three of the projected top four in the Coastal division in this month.  The Eastern Michigan game is a toss up at this point but could provide UVA with a much-needed win during this brutal stretch.

If EMU can overcome the fact that UVa. is a ACC team, they have a chance.

I don’t think conference affiliation enters into a single game outcome, it has more to do just with the two teams. Last year UVa lost to William & Mary, who are an FCS team, and to Duke, who have been even worse over the last 15 years than EMU, so I think EMU has a chance, though UVa will probably be the heavy favorite.

There’s also an interesting parrallel between UVa and EMU. UVa just fired their coach after a 3-9 season, and their new head coach is a former defensive coordinator from the area. That’s exactly where EMU was a year ago.
