I don’t care much for baseball, softball, and related sports. From a spectator perspective, I consider them among the most boring sports ever created: more boring than NASCAR (possibility of a spectacular crash), golf, and curling (which I actually really enjoy watching), and right up there with bowling and watching paint dry. So even though this might be an exciting time of the year for fans of those sports at the collegiate level, all you’re likely to see from me is a quick note every now and then.
With that out of the way, the 2010 softball season is over for EMU. They managed to go out with a pair of wins this weekend, beating the Northern Illinois Huskies 7-6 on Saturday and 7-4 on Sunday. It wasn’t enough to get them into the MAC tournament, however, and they end the season with a 19-30-1 record (8-13-1 in MAC play).
The baseball team is still in contention for the MAC title with two weeks left in the regular season. They’re 24-24 overall, 13-8 in the MAC, which puts them fourth in the MAC West, and somewhere around sixth in the MAC overall. They play their last four home games this week, against Oakland on Wednesday (6:05 pm) and against Toledo on Friday (6:05 pm), Saturday (3:05), and Sunday (1:05), then they’ll wrap up the regular season at Central Michigan on 5/20, 5/21, and 5/22. The weather should be good this weekend, so if you like baseball plan a trip to Oestrike Stadiuim this week to cheer on the Eagles.
