MAC football preview notes

July 30, 2010

No big surprises in the preseason poll:

1. Temple (17) 137
2. Ohio (3) 116
3. Kent State 94
4. Bowling Green 74
5. Miami 53
6. Buffalo 48
7. Akron 38
1. Northern Illinois (15) 115
2. Central Michigan (3) 83
3. Western Michigan (2) 77
4. Toledo 75
5. Ball State 50
6. Eastern Michigan 20
Marathon MAC Championship Game Winner
Temple 11, Northern Illinois 5, Ohio 1, no vote 3

Check that out, the Eagles are a consensus pick for last in the West! Of course, EMU can’t exactly brag about that, so here’s how they spun it:

EMU Football Picked Sixth in MAC Football Poll

The Mid-American Conference also announced two television deals today. For the fourth consecutive year, ESPN Regional Television will produce a MAC “Game of the Week” for syndication on September 18 and on each Saturday in October. Notable for EMU fans, the October 2 homecoming game against Ohio University will be televised on WXYZ-TV (Channel 7), so if for some reason you can’t make it to that game, it will come to you. All 6 games will be broadcast across 20% of the US, and will be available for online viewing as well. The MAC also announced a deal with SportsTime Ohio to carry 3 conference football games and 33 basketball games. In addition to being carried on cable throughout Ohio, those games will be viewable nationally on Dish Network, DirecTV, and AT&T U-verse. I’m guessing the MAC isn’t making that much from these deals, but everything helps, and just getting on TV is probably worth more than the money.
