EMU at Buffalo/EMU at Canisius double open thread

November 20, 2010

As we’ve discussed, the Eagles football team will be playing against the State University of New York at Buffalo Bulls in the University at Buffalo Stadium at the Amherst Campus of the State University of New York at Buffalo in Amherst, New York, in what probably represents the Eagles’ last realistic chance at a second win this fall. Plus, by blogger fiat, it’s a rivalry game: the Ontario Sandwich Trophy!

As we’ve also discussed, though not as much, the Eagles’ men’s basketball team will be playing against Canisius College Golden Griffins in Koessler Center, in downtown Buffalo. This MAC versus MAAC matchup, which will be the first appearance of Derek Thompson, will take place only six miles from the aforementioned MAC versus MAC game.

Unfortunately for any EMU fans who made the trip, they’ll be forced to choose a team, because for some reason (SCHEDULE FAIL) the games will be played simultaneously, starting at 2 pm. That’s right, instead of a football/basketball doubleheader in upstate New York, EMU fans are stuck with one or the other.

If, on the other hand, you’re stuck in Ypsi today — and all in all, I don’t think it will be too bad of a day in Ypsi; the weather should provide a cool, clear, autumn day — you have several ways to follow one or the other or both games:

  • The football game will be televised on Sports Time Ohio, ESPN Game Plan, and ESPN3.com.
  • The football game will be streamed online at All-MACcess (single-game viewing is $7.95).
  • The football game will have a radio broadcast on WEMU-FM and WCHB-AM. WEMU streams their radio broadcast online, so if you’re outside the broadcast footprint, you can still listen online.
  • The basketball game will — as far as I can tell — not be televised and will not have a radio broadcast. The only option there is streaming video from Canisius, of which the cheapest package is $8.95 for one month.
  • Of course, there are many other websites, of various repute and dubious legality, which will claim to have free streaming video.

Or, as always, you can talk about the games in the comments here.

And, within a minute of each other, both of our games are now underway!

Nice punt fake by the Eagles! They’ve had some success on trick plays this year, most notably LeDuc’s pass in the Miami game, but we just haven’t seen that many trick plays.

At the second media time-out (11:53 remaining in the first half), the MBB Eagles are not looking good, down 15-6 to Canisius. Bowdry is shooting just 25%.

EMU is really stinking it up. 7 turnovers, only 8 rebounds, terrible shooting; down 22-12.

  4. November 20, 2010 2:55 pm

At halftime, Canisius leads the Eagles, 36-22. That’s just a pitiful halftime score.

At halftime for the football game, it’s been the running game carrying the Eagles. Priest has run for 103 yards and 2 TDs. Gillett also has 7 carries for 24 yards, but has been terrible passing, completing 3 of 6 for 39 yards and 2 interceptions, good for a whopping 37.9 quarterback rating.

Meanwhile Buffalo has done it through the air; Davis is 10 of 15 for 121 yards and 1 TD.

Meanwhile the basketball game is barely worth mentioning; the Eagles trail Canisius 59-36 with about 6 minutes left. Just terrible.

  6. November 20, 2010 3:59 pm

Priest is staking a claim for MACWDOPotW. So far in the second half he’s got another 62 yards and another TD, for a total of 165 yards and 3 TDs, both career highs. He’s averaging more than 7 yards per carry today!

  7. November 20, 2010 4:02 pm

That is EMU’s first double-digit lead of the Ron English era.

  8. November 20, 2010 4:07 pm

And the basketball game is over. Final score: Canisius 71, EMU 51. We will speak no more of the basketball game on this thread.

In other football news of interest to fans of the other green & white team in Michigan, Iowa leads Ohio State 7-0 at the end of the first quarter. Go Hawkeyes!

WEMU Announcer: If Eastern’s going to win this game, they’ll have to do it with their defense.
