Lou Henson Tournament opponent preview
Due to time spent on the more-interesting football marking and attendance information, as well as the one-day turnaround for tomorrow, we have a highly abbreviated preview for the Lou Henson Tournament. Both EMU games in the tournament will be broadcast on WEMU.
This evening (5 pm), EMU will face the Valparaiso Crusaders. They’ve played twice before, in a home-and-home series in 1988 and 1989, with the home team winning each game, and haven’t faced each other since. In the late game (7:30 pm), Oakland will play Rochester College, a USCAA team looking to move up to NAIA (yes, you read that right). As a point of comparison for Rochester, they played Kent State in a game the Golden Flashes counted as an exhibition, though Rochester seems to list it in their regular season, with Kent State winning 81-44.

Tomorrow, the two losing teams will play a consolation game at 5 pm, and the two winning teams will play a championship game at 7:30. Realistically, it’s hard to see the Tuesday games being anything other than EMU-Rochester and Valparaiso-Oakland; I don’t see any way Rochester will beat Oakland, and an EMU win against Valpo seems fairly unlikely, though not impossible.
