Women’s basketball to host Miami after men’s game Saturday
EMU’s women’s basketball team won their Senior Night matchup against Western Michigan convincingly last night, earning the #5 seed in the MAC tournament (PDF bracket).
Although it was a back-and-forth game for the first 12 minutes, after the third media timeout, the Eagles went on a 10-0 run to take the lead for good. EMU also closed out strong, holding the Broncos scoreless from the field in the final five minues. Sydney Huntley, Tavelyn James, Paige Redditt, and Cassie Schrock all scored in double figures.
With a 10-6 MAC record (19-11 overall), the Eagles are the #5 seed in the MAC tournament, and will host #12 Miami University. The RedHawks bring a 3-13 MAC record (11-18 overall) into the game. After starting the season 7-3, Miami has struggled, and in the last month and a half, they’ve gone 1-11. Their last win against a school not named “Akron” was all the way back on January 12 (Buffalo), and in the last three months they have just two wins against teams over .500. The game is scheduled for 4:30 pm this Saturday in the Convocation Center, following the men’s basketball senior day game against an even worse opponent; Toledo (4-27; 1-15 MAC) will come to town riding a 12-game losing streak, having won just one game since Christmas.
