MAC women’s basketball championship game open thread
If you haven’t been paying attention — and why haven’t you? — the EMU women’s basketball team is just 40 minutes (plus about 80 minutes of stoppage, plus a few hours until tip-off) away from their first MAC championship since 2004!
After knocking off the top-seeded Toledo Rockets, a team that beat them twice in the regular season, by a score of 61-55 yesterday, the Eagles have advanced to the MAC championship game this afternoon. EMU will face a very good Bowling Green team that comes in to the game on a 10-game winning streak. The Falcons are 27-4, with three of the four losses coming by just one point each. They have the potential to drop a ton of points on an opponent — they’ve scored 90 or more five times this year — and they have a solid defense that’s held opponents under 50 points seven times.
EMU played Bowling Green once this year, on February 12, and the Falcons managed to leave Ypsi with a 60-55 win. In that game, Bowling Green’s leading scorer, senior Lauren Prochaska, piled up 37 points, while for the Eagles, Cassie Schrock was held to only 5. The Eagles will need to do better at both ends if they hope to come away with a win today.
Today’s game, at 1 pm, will be broadcast on WEMU radio (also streaming online) and on Comcast digital channel 900 in the Ypsilanti area. Video will also be streamed online at All-MACcess ($6.95). Watch, listen, and discuss here!
UPDATE: According to information from the MAC, the game will also be on Sports Time Ohio, ESPN Full Court, and ESPN3.com.
