Women’s basketball 2011-12 schedule

October 3, 2011

For some reason, EMU has never gotten around to officially releasing the 2011-12 women’s basketball schedule — the 2010-11 schedule is still listed on their website — even though we’re now just a month-and-a-half from tipoff. I was able to track it down over the weekend, so here it is:

Remember this? Michigan will return to the Convocation Center for a rematch.

11/18 at Green Bay
11/20 at Loyola-Chicago
11/25 at Cornell
11/27 at Canisius
12/3 at Michigan State
12/9 Missouri-Kansas City
12/11 Michigan
12/20 at Detroit Mercy
12/29 TBA
12/30 TBA
1/2 Wyoming
1/5 at Ball State
1/8 Northern Illinois
1/11 at Toledo
1/14 Western Michigan
1/19 Central Michigan
1/22 at Bowling Green
1/25 at Buffalo
1/28 Akron
2/1 at Ohio
2/4 Miami University
2/11 Kent State
2/15 at Western Michigan
2/18 at Northern Illinois
2/21 Toledo
2/25 Ball State
2/28 at Central Michigan

Aside from opening with five road games, including a tough trip to East Lansing, this is a decent schedule. On December 11, EMU will host Michigan in a rematch of the opening-round WNIT game from the spring, which the Eagles won 67-59. January 28 looks like a doubleheader with the women hosting Akron and the men hosting Bowling Green. February 11 will be another, with the women hosting Kent State and the men hosting Ohio. February 25 will be a third doubleheader with both teams hosting Ball State for their Senior Days, which should be fun!

    Dear cmadler,
Looks like a challenging schedule to me. I see Eastern is playing Michigan State. I was wondering if that was ever going to happen, since Suzy Merchant left Eastern, to become Sparty’s new coach?
What’s going on with the NCAA investigation? Doesn’t Eastern have to know soon, with practice for basketball starting in a few weeks?

The NCAA Notice of Inquiry stated, “It is the present intention of the enforcement staff to complete this investigation by October 2011.” I expect that we’ll hear something any day now.
