EMU at Central Michigan open thread

October 15, 2011

It should be an interesting football game today. As was the case two weeks ago against Akron, this one has the potential to be significantly affected by the weather. The forecast is for game temperatures in the low 50s with a 30% chance of rain, but more significantly, there is an all-day wind advisory, with steady winds around 20 mph and gusts expected to reach 50 mph. This will put a damper on any passing, which hurts Central Michigan far more than it does EMU.

If you got to the game, adult general admission tickets are $20. As a “Take a Kid to the Game Day” promotion, children under age 12 will be admitted free with a paying adult. Today’s game will be Homecoming for Central Michigan, which probably means a larger-than-usual crowd, but there should still be plenty of open seats at Kelly/Shorts Stadium, where the Chippewas have been drawing 16,000-24,000 fans per game the last two years. Also, if you go you should be aware that Central Michigan is testing a new post-game traffic plan; in the past they apparently haven’t done any special traffic diversions.

If you’re not able to make it to the game this afternoon, there are several other ways to keep up to date.

  • The MAC is offering free streaming video for a bunch of games this fall, and it looks like today’s matchup is one of them. Watch here.
  • If free isn’t your style, you can pay Central Michigan University to watch on the “CMU Sports Zone” (cheapest access is $9.95 for a month).
  • Listen to the game on WEMU, 89.1 FM. Or, if you’re out of the area, listen online for free.
  • If you hunt around online, you’ll find several websites claiming to have free streaming video of the game. I’m dubious, and some of the sites seem sketchy, so I won’t link them here, but they shouldn’t be too hard to find if you look. But really, with the MAC offering it for free, why would you bother with these other sites?

You could also talk about it in the comments here. And if you can’t wait until 3 pm to talk about football, feel free to get a head start this morning. It’s an open thread, so as always, comments on any topic are legit.

    Dear cmadler,
What a game! Eastern marched right down the field, to score the winning touchdown, with 30 seconds to go in the game. I will have to eat crow on the performance of Gillett, and with the offensive coordinator, Karcher.
The offensive line was unbelievable, and the very good running by our backs, was a sight to behold. (even though I didn’t watch the game, but listened on the radio)
As I said earlier, I now hope this gives the team added confidence, to get a few more wins before the season ends.

I wanted EMU to get pummeled today, but I must admit that having an adequate EMU program is good for the MAC.

Congrats on the victory, cmadler and Eagle nation. The loss hurts, but you guys deserve the win.
