WBB: EMU 89, Niagara 34

When a team plays a game as impressive as EMU’s women’s basketball team did against Niagara on Tuesday, it deserves special mention.

According to EMU, the 55 point spread was the fourth-largest victory margin in Convo history, and the Purple Eagles’ 34 points were the fewest for an NCAA Division I team in Convo history. Niagara turned the ball over three times for every basket they made.

Cassie Schrock led the way for the Eagles with 20 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, and five steals. Tavelyn James  added 20 points and 4 assists in just 20 minutes of play, and Sydney Huntley scored 16 points. Admittedly, Niagara was not the toughest opponent, as they came in to this match with a 1-9 record, but it would have been easy for the Eagles to let up as the game progressed, and have this wind up at, say, 77-58, which was the what Akron managed against the Purple Eagles a month ago.

All in all, this was a very impressive win for the Eagles, and a great way to end 2010.
